Want to fall in love with writing? Want readers to fall in love with your characters?  This four-week Romance Writing workshop is perfect for beginner-to-intermediate writers eager to craft their own exhilarating love story. Each two-hour session blends fun mini-lectures with hands-on writing exercises, feedback, and achievable milestones to keep you engaged and growing as a writer. You’ll explore the core elements that make romance novels sparkle, from engaging character arcs, to romantic conflicts, to satisfying endings. Hopcraft will also touch on beloved tropes and characteristics of popular subgenres, such as contemporary, historical, mystery, and romantic suspense. Students will develop two lead characters, craft a premise, sketch an outline, and draft their novel’s opening chapter. The instructor will focus on how to craft a compelling narrative without relying solely on indulgent sex scenes and sensationalism. Whether you dream of publishing one day or simply want to write a swoon-worthy story for fun, this workshop will give you the inspiration and confidence to write romance with creativity and joy.
Norma Hopcraft is the author of the Tricia Maguire romantic mystery series, including the novels Envy Kills, Why Spy? and Numbers Count. She is also the author of The Paris Writers Circle and the blog The Traveling Writer. With time spent writing and living in Paris, Barcelona, and Brooklyn, Hopcraft now resides in Rochester, NY. She was a newspaper and corporate journalist, then a magna cum laude graduate of New York University’s creative writing and literature program. She’s been published by the literary magazine South Dakota Review and won first prize from Deadly Ink for a mystery short story.
