Arts in Education

Arts in Education programming offers students access to vital enrichment programming during their school day. While working on creative writing and reading projects, students build their skills in critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration. These are site-specific programs funded by grants, foundations, and individuals.

Image Meets Word

Fifth and sixth grade students from RCSD schools #19 and #23 participate in a series of field trips to the George Eastman Museum to explore the literary and photographic arts. Every session includes activities designed and curated by two teaching artists, a writer from Writers & Books and a visual artist from the George Eastman Museum. This program originated in 2018.

 

Rochester Academy Charter Middle School: Young Geniuses Creative Writing Program

Seventh and eighth grade self-selecting students participate in weekly yoga and creative writing sessions, for the duration of the school year. The program culminates with an anthology of student work. This program originated in 2024.

 

Rochester Prep High School Creative Writing Project

High school students participate in twice-weekly creative writing workshops for the duration of the school year. The program culminates with a presentation at the school-wide showcase, along with a literary journal curated and written by the students. This program originated in 2025.
