Terlazzo’s chance meeting with Allen Ginsburg in 1970s inspired him to use the principles of sitting meditation to unlock a powerful contemplative writing practice, one he’s been teaching ever since. Informed by songs, folktales, and poetry, Terlazzo’s guided writing exercise will compel writers of any genre to reflect and connect with their inner muse. This afternoon workshop at our tranquil retreat in the finger lakes will help participants comprehend their “True Nature” and write into their purpose and peace.

John Terlazzo has facilitated countless writing workshops for children and adults for decades. He served as poet-in -residence in the York (PA) city schools, discussed banned books for the American Library Association, and organized public readings and poetry camping retreats. He brought his workshops to high schools, health care facilities, and the general public all over the country. He taught his workshop, The Secret Tells Itself: Writing as a Contemplative Act at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center every Monday night for five years, and as part of the Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Program twice a week for three years. His popular weekend Retreat, The Flame in Every Hand: Writing as a Contemplative Act happens several times a year in various parts of the country.
