How do playwrights create exciting, evocative, and memorable works of literature? It’s one part craft, one part community. In this class, writers of all experience levels will write, read, listen, and interact with their fellow classmates as we dig into the various elements of crafting a play, including dialogue, conflict, scene development, and structure. We’ll use example texts, writing prompts, feedback sessions, revision exercises, collaborative writing, and adapt the course as needed to the wishes of the class. Come join us as we write ‘till our ink be dry!

Bill Caposerre’s play Drowning was recently given two staged readings at the 2025 Durango Playfest, while an earlier version of Drowning and his first play, Galileo’s, were both given readings as part of GEVA’s Regional Writers Showcase and New Plays Festival. His most recent play, After the After, was a finalist for the Neukom Institute Literary Arts Award for Playwriting and an alternate selection for the Great Plain Theater Festival. A number of his short plays have been performed over the years at the Rochester Fringe Festival’s “Plays in a Day” and as part of Writers and Book’s “Two Pages-Two Characters” performances. His non-theatrical work has appeared in journals and anthologies, including Colorado Review, AQR, and In Short. He lives in Rochester, where he currently teaches Playwriting and Prose Creative Writing at Nazareth University
