Scream / Queen

The poet will be joined in conversation by Leonora Simonovis.

Through formally innovative poems populated by slasher-movie villains and campy horror creatures, Scream / Queen examines queerness, mental illness, and transgender identity. Though the current climate of trans panic and state legislation against trans bodies haunts the book, this debut collection ultimately conjures a world full of hope and tenderness. An affirming journey of self-discovery emerges that celebrates all the body’s possibilities.

CD Eskilson is a trans nonbinary poet and translator. A poetry co-editor at Split Lip Magazine and former punk musician, their work appears in the Kenyon Review, The Offing, and Cincinnati Review, among others.

Leonora Simonovis is a Venezuelan American poet, editor, educator, and the author of Study of the Raft, winner of the 2021 Colorado Prize for Poetry and Honorable Mention at the 2022 International Latino Book Awards. Her poetry has been featured in or is forthcoming from the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-A-Day, About Place Journal, Amsterdam Review, Whale Road Review, SWWIM, and elsewhere. Her poems consider the intersections of myth, language, and story in connection to the land and to her experience as an exile. Learn more at www.leonorasimonovis.com.
