A SummerWrite in the Branches Camp
Families facing economic challenges are especially encouraged to register their young readers and writers in tuition-free camps held at five Rochester branch libraries.
Words and pictures work together to tell stories in celebrated graphic novels, comics, and Manga like Dog Man, Black Panther, Super Diaper Baby, Razzle Dazzle Unicorn, Cat Kid Comic Club and The Last Kids on Earth. With the whole library at our fingertips, we’ll immerse ourselves in graphic novels that tell stories and focus on themes we care about. Whether your passion is friendship, family, climate change, justice, superheroes, or finding humor in the mundane, you’ll find books that are mirrors (books relating to your own lives) and windows (books that offer a look into a new point of view). Inspired by published authors and illustrators, we’ll try our own drawing and writing prompts, learn about the elements that make a great book, and participate in discussions and games that will further our learning and fun! We’ll learn how storyboarding can help you to tell your story and design your illustrations as you imagine your own stories living on the library shelves some day!
