Percy Jackson’s Magic Pen | Ages: 9 – 12

Percy Jackson’s Magic Pen | Ages: 9 – 12

Percy Jackson is mighty with his sword; his creator, Rick Riordan, is mighty with his pen. Experiment with the writing techniques Riordan uses to weave his spellbinding tales. Prepare by reading The Lightning Thief before camp. Together, we’ll mine it for models of how to create vivid characters, build suspense across chapters, and borrow story elements from classic literature. You’ll craft your own Camp Half-Blood adventure—complete with witty narration, fast-paced action, and humor worthy of Percy himself.

Along the way, we’ll journey into ancient Greek culture: explore myths and legends, try a Greek poetic form, and examine artifacts from museums around the world (including a field trip to the Memorial Art Gallery). We’ll also discover how Greek influence still shapes our language, government, architecture, and art today—proof that ancient Greece lives on in our modern world.
